LICENSED HOTELS.

At the request of Mr C. H. Izard, M.P. for "Wellington North, a return has been la d before the House of [Representatives, showing the number of licensed houses in each licensing district of r 1 1 >ominion, from which we make the allowing extracts : There are 1, i J c icensed hotels in the Dominion of New Zealand, and 203 licensed accommodation houses. The eity of Auckland has 51 licensed hotels Wellington 48, Christchurch 46, and Dunedin 39. In the city of Nelson there are 23 hotel licenses and 3 aecommonation ones. Westland has the greatest number of hotel licenses (o 9) a nd also the greatest number of accommodation house licenses (19). The licensing district of Avon (Canterbury) has the least, there being./mly 2 hotel licenses. There are 6 No-Incense districts, namely, Grey Lynn (Auckland) ; Ashbnrlon (Canterbury) ; Oamaru, Clutha and Mataura (Otago); and Invercargill (Southland). The Noliicense party has captured 6 districts, and these “ dry ” parts have shown no desire to again become “ web ” ones. The prohibition movement is gaming ground, and there is convincing proof that No-License makes for the better social and business interests of the places in which it ha 3 .been accepted. The disease of alcoholism is being slowly, but surely eradicated by the healing power of prohibition.
