Mr Tennyson Smith, temperance lecturer and advocate, after a stay of eighteen months in the South Island has opened his campaign at Wellington. Mr Smith’s original intention was only to put in three months in New Zealand, but the prohibition fights at Sydenham and Oamaru having caused him to extend his stay, he has resolved to make a thorough exploration of every settlement. He intends to devote nine months more to the North Island and to visit every corner of it. Large audiences greet him every night, admission, except on special occassioms, being free. On August 22nd, the opening night of Mr E. Tennyson Smith’s thirteen days’ mission in Wellington, the Opera House was packed, numbers being refused admission.
