GUM LANDS AT TE KURI AND RED HILL.

At the meeting of the Auckland Waste Lands Board on Tuesday the question of the gum lands again came up for discussion. The Board recently decided to withdraw all gum lands from sale or selection, and Messrs Schick and Sjostrom, two gentlemen who had made application for such lands at Te Kuri, waited upon the Hobson County Council asking their assistance towards procuring the lands they had applied for. The Council complied and sent a request to the Board for the throwing open of the Te Kuri lands. The Board consented and promised that the maps would soon he ready. The Minister of Lands has seemingly interfered, for the following paragraph appears in the ‘ Herald’s ’ account of the Crown Lands Board’s meeting on Tuesday.—‘‘Gum Lands.—The Undersecretary telegraphed that the attention of the Minister for Lands had been called to the resolution of the Land Board relative to gum lands being dealt with under the Land Act 1887, reference being made to the Te Kuri run lands, which had been offered for sale. The Chairman read some correspondence from the Hobson County Council in regard to the matter, and pointed out tha?tthe settlement of gum land was a question which required serious and careful consideration. It was decided to withdraw the Te Kuri lands from sale, and to postpone dealing with them till a full meeting of the Board. A petition was received from settlers at Bed Hill asking that section 132, Te Kopuru, should not be disposed of as it contained gum. It was resolved to obtain a siiecial report on the section, and to withdraw it from sale in the meantime.
