[The editor is not responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] (To the Editor), Sir. —A great authority tells us : —“ Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers,” No doubt, as a rule, it is for our interests to submit to the powers that be ; provided the authority exercised by such powers do not become abused, as in the case of the Hobson County Council at the present time, whose acts are becoming very vexatious. "Were the Councillors men who respected laws of their own making, outsiders would at least have less cause for complaint, but our worthj local rulers appear to think that they are above all laws. I shall quote one illustration to prove this as space will not allow more. Some IS months since an Order in Council was promulgated that no vehicles other than those entirely supported by wheels would be allowed on any of the County roads ; on this intimation every settler in Oltahu riding using a sleigh or a trolly discontinued its use and got wheeled vehicles, with the exception of one man who is using a sleigh up to the present day, and that man is Councillor B. who represents us in the H.C C. —- I am etc., Ratepayer Mititai,
