The death has occurred in England of Dr. Price, formerly of Featherston.

Mr and Mrs J. C. Fisher, of Cole Street, have returned to Masterton after an enjoyable eight months' trip to Europe.

Dr. Warren Young, Papakura, is visiting the Wairarapa, and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Barnard, of the Bank of New Zealand, Greytown.

Mr. A. Oakey, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, Tokomaru Bay, is visiting Carterton and is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Beale, Rexwood Street.

According to a cable Flying-Officer A. E. Clouston, the New Zealand airman who flew from London to Capetown and back in record time, has returned to his Royal Air Force duties at Farnborough, Kent. The Rev. D. J. Davies, B.Sc., Vicar of All Saints Church, Kilbirnie, has been appointed Vicar of St. Paul's ProCathedral as successor to Canon Percival .Tames, who is now Vicar of Halifax, England. Mr. Davies is expected to go to St. Paul's towards the end of February.—(P.A.) The engagement is announced of Dorothy May, only daughter of Mrs K. Brooks, of Wellington, and the late W. H; L. Brooks, of Mauriceville, to Sefton Leonard, youngest son of Mr and Mrs L. Deans, of Wellington. Dr. Gordon Cook of the Pathological Laboratory, Auckland Hospital, has been successful in passing the examination for the D.P.H.. Dr. Cook intends to visit England early next year in furtherance of his post-graduate professional studies. He is a son of Dr. P. R. Cook and Mrs. Cook, of Masterton.

Sergeant T. H. Dyer, who is a patient in the Lewisham Hospital in Wellington, underwent an operation on Wednesday, and his condition is as satisfactory as can be expected, under the circumstances. It is probable that he may have to undergo a further operation.

At the funeral of the late Miss Esther Clementine Wilton, in Masterton yesterday, there was a very large and representative attendance of settlers from all parts of the district. A wealth of lovely wreaths was received in token of the great regret occasioned by the death of Miss Wilton and of the sympathy felt for her bereaved relatives. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. John Davie and the pallbearers were Messrs L. W. Wilton, W. K. Ghorley, M. J. Wilton, C. J. McDonald, W. O. Wilton and K. A. Wilton.

The death occurred on Saturday, af ter a long illness, of Mrs. Claude Smith, Belvedere Street, Carterton. The late Mrs. Smith was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jensen, well-known residents of the Carterton district. She is survived by her husband and an infant child, to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of fronds andr relatives will be extended. The funeral took place yesterday at the Clareville Cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. H. White. The many beautiful wreaths were evidence of the esteem in which the late Mrs. Smith was held.
