Masterton: Miss A. M. Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday:— Barograph, 29.64; ’shade temperature, maximum, 64.8; minimum, 44.9; terrestrial, 40.3; sunshine, J) hours 6 minutes; rain, 12 points. Solway: Mr. H. M. Boddington reports that 11 points of rain feU at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—An intense secondary depression is at present advancing rapidly on to eoutheri New Zealand and is likely to pass eastwards to-night; an anticyclone covers Eastern Australia and is extending on to the Tasman. Forecast: Winds: Strong westerly to southwesterly, gale force in places, tending more to southerly by the morning. Weather: (till changeable and squally, with showers in most parts, heavy at times, especially in western areas; temperatures cold With some snow probable on the ranges, hail in places; improving to-morrow, however, on the west coast of the South Island, gradually elsewhere.
