MISSIONARY MURDERED.

NEW ZEALANDER’S TRAGIC DEATH. HEBRIDEAN NATIVE RUNS AMUCK. AUCKLAND, April 30. The murder of a well-known New Zealand missionary in the New Hebrides, the Rev. William Veitch Milne, by a native who ran amuck on Tuesday night was reported in a cablegram today to the Missions Committee of the Presbyterian Church from his fellowmissionary, the Rev. B. C. Nottage. Mr. Nottage stated that Mr. Milne’s death was instantaneous. Mr. Milne, who was 60 years of age, was bora, in the New Hebrides. He was the fourth son of the Rev. Peter Milne, missionary in the islands from 1870 to 1924. The Rev. William Milne commenced work as assistant to his father in 1900 on the island of Nguna, where he has just been killed. He married Miss J. Scott, of Wyndham, near Invercargill, in 1905. Their three children are all in New Zealand. Two brothers are Dr. Peter Milne, formerly in Kenya Colony, and Dr. Donald S. Milne, of Otaki. The late Mr. Milne was regarded as a particularly competent man, devoted to his work and the people under his charge. He visited New Zealand last year. —(P.A.)
