SCHOOL SERVICES.

PRESENTATION TO RETIRING CHAIRMAN. Mr. J. V. Gordon, who recently retired from the chairmanship of the Masterton West School Committee, was presented by members of the committee on Thursday night with a reading lamp and pipe. In making the presentation, Mr. R.' J. Weir referred, to the sterling work carried out by Mr. Gordon during the fourteen years he had. served on the committee, twelve as chairman. The headmaster, Mr. W. T. Armstrong, said that the staff and children had found everything at the school made as pleasant as possible for them and the good work performed by the committee reflected much credit on Mr. Gordon as chairman. Messrs F. Shearer, S. Perfect, F. W. Grigg and W. V. Madden supported the remarks of the previous speakers. Mr. Gordon, in acknowledging the gift, said he very much regretted that he had found it necessary to resign.
