OPERA HOUSE REPAIRS.
POSfiTBILITY OF FINAUTY I BEING REACHED. APPLICATION MADE FOR LOAN; Lengthy correspondence was read at last night M meeting of the Bfasterton Trust Lands Trust regarding negotiations with the Government for arMnging the necessary finance tn allow repairs to the earthquake-damaged Opera House to be carried out; The upshot of the negotiations is that the Trust has made application to the Local Government Loans Board for the raising of a loan of up to £4000; £lOOO to repay the balance of the existing- Earthquake Damage Loan, and £3OOO for the restoration of the Opera House. The Trust endorsed the action taken by the chairman, Mr. J. Macfarlane Laing and decided to instruct its solicitor to prepare the necessary clause to give the Trust legislative authority to carry out the work on the lines indicated,’ so that it coulil be dealt with by Parliament this session. Mr. Laing stated that everything possible had been done to expedite the whole, proceedings and that there' appeared to be every reason to- believe that the matter would be satisfactorily
