PALMERSTON N. DISPUTE.
NOW REGARDED AS CLOSED. PALMERSTON NORTH, October 6. A statement was made to-day by Councillor W. G. Tennent that it was not his intention to proceed further with any contemplated proceedings against Councillor J. Hodgens, M.P., in consequence of a reference to himself contained in a telegram which Mr. Hodgens forwarded to the City Council three weeks ago. Mr. Tennent to-day said that though he considered the proper place for Mr. Hodgens to make withdrawal of the statement was at the council table, he understood from people who had attended the public meeting in the Opera House on September ID that Mr. Hodgens there had made the necessary withdrawal. Mr. Tennent said he now regarded the matter as closed.—'(P.A.)
