RACING YEAR.

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S ANNUAL BEPOBT. TWO SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS. “Both the New Year and Autumn fixtures were successful financially, and in every other repect, but they would have undoubtedly been better from the point of view of income had the fields been bigger at the latter meeting,” states the annual report of the Wairarapa Racing Club for the past year. “The number of visitors from overseas was one feature at the Autumn meeting, and the grounds and native bush came in for very favourable comment. The year commenced with a credit balance of os 7d in the current account, and £1321 in the Post Office Savings Bank, and ended with a credit of £lB9 8s 5d at the Bank of New Zealand and £483 17s 0d on deposit in the Savings Bank. The balance of mortgage debenture stock fell due on January 31, and the whole amount of £lBOO was paid off. The sum of £519 13s 7d was expended on buildings and improvements, and £B5 Ils 9d in chattels and implements. Stakes were again increased for the season. The response for owners and trainers at the New Year meeting was good, but poor for the Easter meeting. The buildings, plant and grounds are in. good order, and no heavy expenditure is anticipated during the coming year. The river protection work will be proceeded with when conditions permit.
