Messrs W. M. Sellar, Ralph Tatham and Frederick Maunsell, of Masterton, who have been on a visit to Norfolk Island, returned to New Zealand by the Wanganella yesterday morning.

It is announced that Mr. D. E. Fouhy has been appointed Official Secretary to the Governor-General in succession to Sir Cecil Day, who has recently taken up duty in the office of the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London.—(P.A.)

Mrs. M. O.’Reilly, of Clifton Avenue, Carterton, has received word by cable that her youngest brother, Mr. John Kelly, of Tintna, County Tyrone, Ireland, died on Friday last. The late Mr. Kelly was 52 years of age, and was the youngest member of the family. .He ’eaves two sisters in New Zealand. Mrs. M. O’Beilly (Carterton) and Mrs. W. Donovan (Bangitumau, Masterton), and one brother, Mr. Hugh Kelly, of Dannevirke.

The death took place in a private hospital at Hastings on Thursday morning, after an illness extending over three months, of Mr. Harry Te Whaiti, a Native well-known in Greytown and throughout the Wairarapw. The late Mr. Te Whaiti who was 52 years of age, was born at Pirinoa, being the eldest son of the late Mr. Iraia Te Whaiti and Mrs. Waikara Te Whaiti, of Greytown. He leaves a widow and a large family. Mr. Geo. Te Whaiti, of Greytown, is a brother. The remains are being brought to Papawai, where a big tangi is to be held.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Linton were farewelled at Dyerville this week by a representative gathering of when several presentations were made. On behalf of the Dyerville School Committee, Mr. C. Garrity presented Mr. and Mrs. Linton with a silver fruit dish, Mr. Campbell Smith, president of the Dyerville Tennis Club, handed the guests a stand of fireirons, and Miss Linton received a Church praise and Masterton Linton a book from the Sunday teachers and scholars. Mr. J. McGillicuddy, chairman of the Elmdale Dairy Co., presented Mr. Linton with a handsome china cabinet as a mark of appreciation from the directors and suppliers. Mr. and Mrs. Linton and family are taking up their residence at Dalefield.
