Masterton: Miss A. M. Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday:— Barograph, 29.56; shade temperature, maximum, 49.4; minimum, 44.6; terrestrial, 43.5; sunshine, nil; rain, 18J points. Solway: Mr. H. M. Boddington reports that 14 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m yesterday. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—A deep and complex depression still covers thp New Zealand area with the lowest pressure extending from the Bay of Plenty to Chatham Island, a fresh but shallow depression is located over the western Tasman Sea while an intense anti-cyclone covers the greater part of Australia. Forecast: Winds strong southerly winds of gale force at places, especially about and north of Cook Strait, but moderating to-morrow. Weather: Mainly fair in Westland, elsewhere unsettled, changeable and squally, with showers in most districts and hail in places, especially in coastal areas; temperatures cold with some hard frosts in the South Island; conditions improving to-morrow. Sun rises, 7.0 a.m.; sets, 4»54 p.m. Lighting-up time, 5.14 p.m.
