WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIPS. MISS FLEMING k HAWKSWORTH IN FORM. Keen and exciting contests, with play of a high standard, were witnessed in the Drill Hall on Saturday night when the concluding games in the Wairarapa Badminton Association’s annual championship and handicap tournament -werh' played. There was a large attendance -of interested spectators. P. Hawksworth, triple South Island title holder, made a clean sweep of the men’s events, end Miss N. Fleming, also South Island champion, did likewise in the ladies’ events. Hawksonly dropped two points in the wfiral of the men’s singles, defeating J. Tayton 15/1, 15/1. Hawksworth and Logan were too strong for E. M. HodIder and H. M. O’Connor in the final •of the men’s doubles, winning 15/0, 35/1. After dropping the first set, Miss Fleming defeated Miss N. Stalker in the final of the ladies’ singles. Miss Ftalker a .very promising player, is the first lady to take a set off Miss Fleming in the Wairarapa. Misses Fleming and J. Hosking defeated Misstea L. Hosking and A. Beetham in the final of the ladies’ doubles. The combined doubles were won by Miss Fleming and Hawksworth, who defeated Miss B. Pay ton and J. Logan in the final. At the conclusion of the tourney, the president of the association, Mr. H. M. A. Major, presented the trophies to the winners and congratulated them •n their success. O’Connor and Miss A. Beetham, 15/5, 15/11. Final: P. Hawks worth and Miss N. Fleming beat J. Logan and Miss B. Pay ton, 15/5, 15/6. Second year men’s singles: J. Lulham beat R. Clarke, 21/8.
