SHOCKING ACCIDENT.
WOMAN KILLED AT MOSGIEL STATION. FALLS BETWEEN PLATFORM AND TRAIN. DUNEDIN, July 5. A shocking accident occurred at the Mosgiel railway station yesterday afternoon when an elderly woman named Mrs Jessie Renton, 80 years of age, fell between the platform and the 5.15* p.m. train from Dunedin and was killed instantaneously. There were no witnesses to the accident, but. it is thought that Mrs Renton, who had entered the carriage to say. goodbye to a friend endeavoured to step from the carriage platform when the train began to move and fell on to the rails. The body was shockingly mutilated and identification was possible only by the clothing of deceased, who was a widow and resided with her sister, Mrs Robertson, of East Taieri. An inquest will be opened in the morning.—(P.A.)
