Masterton: Miss A. M. Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. July 4:—Barograph, 30.4; shade temperature, maximum, 49.2; minimum, 27; terrestrial, 21.1; sunshine, 2 hours 18 minutes; rain, 421 points; frost, 9.3 degrees. July 5: Barograph, 49.67; shade temperature, maximum, 60.2; minimum, 30.6; terrestrial, 23.4; sunshine, 8 hours 36 minutes; frost 7 degrees. Solway: Mr. H. M. Boddington reports that 12 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kid son) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—A very deep and, extensive depression has moved with unusual rapidity across the Tasman on to New Zealand, pressure falling as low as 28.47 1 inches in the extreme south to-day. Forecast: Winds strong to gale generally and in places reaching heavy gale force, southerly in the southern portion of the South Island, elsewhere north-westerly to westerly but southerlies extending over the Dominion within the next 24 hours. Weather: Stormy, with general rain, many heavy falls and considerable flooding being probably, more especially in western areas; temperatures becoming very cold with snow on high levels, and hail in places.
