FRENCH GOLF TITLE.
DALLEMAGNE BEATS COTTON. PARIS, July 2. Dallemagne beat Cotton in the playoff over 36 holes for the French open golf championship. The scores were: Dallemagne 139, Cotton 140. Cotton just missed a ten-yard putt at the last hole. He was very tired but he refused to retire as suggested overnight. PRIZES FANTASTIC. CRITICISM RECEIVED WITH SILENCE. (Received Friday, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 2. Cotton, speaking at the presentation of prizes at the pavilion said: “The prizes offered in French golf are fantastic. It is almost, an insult to give such ridiculously small sums to some of the world's best golfers. If you want good players to come to France offer better money. I do not mean to cause ill feeling. I am simply putting the case of the players. ” The speech was received in silence. Dallemagne’s prize was £B5 and Cotton's £52.
