EMPIRE IDEALS.
CHAMBERLAIN CENTENARY PROJECT. APPEAL BY BRITISH PEERS. WIDE CO-OPERATION DESIRED. LONDON, June 15. The Dukes of Bedford, Buccleugh, Portland, Sutherland, and Westminster, and Lords Londonderry, Bledisloe, and Hirst are associated in an appeal to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Mr. Joseph Chamberlain on July 8, when a meeting is to be held in the Albert Hall to inaugurate a memorial fund to enable a sustained campaign to be made throughout the country- in Support of an Imperial Ideals Mission and the need for increasing the Empire’s co-operation in trade, migration, defence, and foreign policy. They are seeking the co-operation of leaders of industry and agriculture at home and overseas, and also of all who realise that -Imperial strength and unity are essential.
IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. MEETING IN MAY NEXT. s RUGBY, June 15. The Prime Minister announced at question time in the House of Commons that the Imperial Conference will be held in London next May, immediately after the Coronation. Mr. Baldjvin added that the Colonial Secretary would communicate with the colonial Governments regarding the holding of another Colonial Office Conference ontho lines of those of 1927 and 1930,-but at present he doubted if if would be practicable to hold it next summer.-7-(British Official Wireless.)
