BOROUGH AFFAIRS

MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, presided at the monthly meeting of. the Masterton Borough Council, held last night. Others present were: Councillors Trevor Beetham, J. Ninnes, A. Rippon, A. T. Jackson, H. E., Gardner, R .Russell, G. D. Wilson, W. H. Judd, W. Kemp, A. D. Low and W. White. The Park Custodian was authorised to carry out pruning work at South Park.

An application was received from the Wairarapa Hospital Board for additional lights in Blair Street. It was decided to advise the board that provision was made on this year’s estimates for additional lighting in Blair Street.

It was decided to thank the Masterton County Council for its letter containing an estimate of the cost of maintaining the boundary roads and to state that the Borough. Qnincal approved of the estimate of the cost. A further letter from the County regretting that the Borough would not agree to the permanent surfacing of South Belt and Ngaumutawa Roads, was received.

The headmaster of the Central School wrote asking for the free use of the Municipal Hall for a fancy dress pupils’ party. It was decided to make the hall available at half the usual charge.
