A ladies’ committee has the catering arrangements well in hand, under the direction of Mrs. A. Chorley, while the men’s committee, under the guidance of Mr. J. M. James (president) and Mr. C. J. McDonald (secretary) is ably attending to the general conduct of the trials. JUDGE’S COMMENTS. Commenting on the open long bead, the judge said the winning dog, Mr. Wilton’s Chiel, was good type of sheep dog, keen and alert. He was awarded within half a point of ths possible for heading. Throughout the pull the sheep were well in hand and in the ring they were firmly and carefully held. Chiel was a good dog well handled, Th dog awarded second place, Mr. Wilton’s Tex, was inclined to swing the sheep about, although they were kept under good control. He did not complete his ring work before tin>9 was called. The third dog, Mr. I Wilton’s Lad, was inclined to short head and to swing the sheep when pulling. He held the sheep firmly and carefully in the ring. Mr. J. 8. McDonald’s Gyp and Mr. C. J. Hay’s Blue both did good work and were equal for fourth place. The first and second dogs in the maiden class put up good work for maiden competitors. The course was very tricky, said Mr. Blair, and any weakness in the dog’s work soon developed into serious trouble. The sheep were very suitable and worked freely. Considerable interest was taken in the excellent performance of a lady competitor, who received a round of applause.
