MEETING OF WAIRARAPA UNION.

POSITIONS OF SENIOR TEAMS. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union last night it was decided to elevate Red Star and Martinborough from the second to the first division in the senior competition. Greytown and Carterton will take their place in the second division.

The positions of the teams at the end of the first round, last Saturday, were as follow: First division, Gladstone 5, Old Boys 5, Greytown 2, Carterton 0. Second division, Red Star 6, Martinborough 4, Featherston 2, Dalefield 0.

On the score of expense and interference with club games it was decided to postpone the match with Poverty Bay, which was to have been played at Gisborne next month, until next season. Mr. W. G. Lamb wrote accepting the position of president of the Union and forwarding a donation.

The Opaki Club entered a challenge for the Pearson Cup. A challenge was also received from Mr. M. Welch for a team representing the Welch family to play any other team in the Wairarapa. It was decided to thank Mr. Welch for his offer and to play the match as the early game on June 10, the date of the Bush-Wairarapa match at Masterton. ,

An application from the Gladstone Club for a lecture on the rules of Rugby was referred to the Referee’s Association. A further request by the Gladstone Club for a championship match to be played at Gladstone on June 6 was referred to the Fixture’s Committee.

A circular letter was received from the New Zealand Union containing observations by Mr. V. R. Meredith on the 3-4-1 scrum formation. It was decided to furnish all elubs with copies of the circular.

It was decided to advise the referees that in the event of a player being injured it was their duty to ascertain the extent of his injuries and whether he is able to continue on the field of Play. Martinborough at Martinborough, Mr. H. J. McKenzie; Carterton v. Dalefield at Carterton, Mr. E. Miller; Greytown v. Featherston at Featherston, Mr. D. S. Nielsen. Juniors: Red Star v. Martinborough, at Martinborough, Mr. P. Reed; Carterton v. Opaki, at Carterton, Mr. H. Matson; Greytown v. Masterton, at Greytown, Mr. H. E'vans.

Thirds: High School v. Featherston, at Featherston, Mr. A. S. MeWhinnie; Carterton v. Masterton, Memorial Park No. 2, at 2.30 p.m., Mr. B. Hurley; Red Star v. Old Boys, at Memorial Park No. 1, at 1.30 p.m., Mr. F. Dean.
