MOTHERS AND SONS.
ANNUAL Y.M.C.A. TEA. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. There was a large attendance at the annual Mother and Son tea held last night by the Ladies’ 1 Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. Excellent organisation resulted in the tea proving most successful and all present spending a very happy time. Mrs C. M. Bowden, president of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, presided and was presented with a bouquet by one of the boys. After Mrs Bowden had welcomed the mothers, Mr. H. M. Peacock, president of the association, also spoke.
The toast to Mother was proposed by Harry Golder and replied to by Mrs G. R. Beeeroft. In an interesting address, Mr. R. M. Brasted, National Secretary of the Y.M.C.A., said there was nothing purer, stronger, or greater than a mother’s love. It was difficult to estimate what a mother did for her son, he said and went on to urge the boys to try always to please their mothers. During the evening much appreciated items were rendered by Max Rogers, Harry Golder, Rex and Ross Riley, — Thomas, Miss J. Mackay and Mrs H. G. Alexander, while community singing was enjoyed by all. The accompaniments were played by Mrs W. G. Perry.
Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. Brasted, the mothers, the Ladies’ Auxiliary, the pianist, those who contributed items, Mr. A. E. Bate, General Secretary and his assistant.
