GLADSTONE SCHOOL
CELEBRATION OF DIAMOND JUBILEE. The Gladstone School Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated on Friday, June 5. The arrangements are in the hands of an enthusiastic committee and judging by the wide interest awakened the celebration promises to be an outstanding success. It will commence at the Gladstone School. At 2 p.m. there will be an assembly and march of ex-pupils, including four papers. Mrs. Gorrie (nee Miss Annie, Duncan), who taught at the school 40 years ago, will call the roll of the first pupils of the school. Mr. Ben Roberts, member for the Wairarapa, will unveil the memorial tablet. The assembly will then adjourn to the Town Hall, where they will be entertained by the pupils of the school, with a programme of songs, recitations and dances. The pupils will be in charge of Mrs. Dodds, the head teacher. Speeches will be made by Mr. William Tahana, chairman of the Jubilee Committee and Mr. A. G. Wyeth, chairman of the school committee and early reminescences will be narrated by other speakers. In the evening there will be a Grand Jubilee Ball. On the Sunday following there will be a church parade at 3 p.m. from the Post Office to the Gladstone Chnrch. The service will be taken by the Rev. R. Byers, of Carterton.
