BOROUGH AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL.
The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, presided at the monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, held last night. Others present were Councillors J. Ninnes, Trevor Beetham, A. D. Low, R. Russell, H. E. Gardner, W. Wh'ite, G. D. Wilson, A. Rippon, A. T. Jackson, W. H. Judd and W. Kemp. Messrs W. Darvill and H. W. Horne were granted billiard room licenses. The Borough solicitor was instructed to prepare an amended by-law relative to the killing charges at the abattoir. The action of the chairman of the G'as Committee in reducing the price of gas for central heating to 5s per 1000 cub'ic feet was endorsed. An application from the Park Tennis Club for three new courts was declined. It was decided to paint the wooden portion of the Municipal Buildings at an estimated cost of £B5. Repairs at a cost of £l6 are also to be carried out to the caretaker’s residence. The W.E.A. was granted the free use of a hall on the same conditions as last year.
