HOCKEY.
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION MATCHES. CARTERTON BEAT STAGS. On Saturday a further round was played in the Wairarapa Hockey Association’s championship fixtures. Pleasant conditions prevailed, and some very evenly contested games were witnessed. Carterton maintained their unbeaten record by defeating Y.M.C.A. Stags 2-1. It was a great game and Carterton were fully extended to Win. Hastwells and Wesley played a drawn game at Lansdowne, while the Kiwi and Dalefield encounter also ended in a draw. The junior competition is proving very interesting and the boys are taking keenly to the stick game. High School have yet to be beaten. In the ladies ’ section, Excelsior were successful in defeating High School. School had a lead of 3-1 at half-time but went to pieces in the second spell, while Excelsior put on another three goals. Greytown were rather lucky to defeat Gladstone. This team is improving with every game now and should be the means of upsetting them all in future. Te Ore Ore just got home from Old Girls, while Carterton and St. Matthew’s played a drawn game. Results:— Senior Men. Carterton beat Stags, 2/1; Wesley and Hastwells drew, 2/2; Kiwi and Dalefield drew, 1/1; Greytown, a bye. Junior Men. High School A beat Y.M.C.A., 2/1; Dalefield beat Masterton Wesley, 6/1; Knripuni Wesley, a bye. Senior Ladies. Gteytown beat Gladstone, 3/2; Te Ore Ore beat Old Girls, 1/9; Excelsior beat High School, 4/3; Carterton and St. Matthew’s drew, 3/3. Junior Ladies. High School beat Old Girls, 4/2; Excelsior and Greytown drew, 0/0.
