MOTOR REGISTRATION.

SPECIAL STAFF DETAILED ’ FOR WORK. EARLY APPLICATION ESSENTIAL.

The registration of motor vehicles at the Masterton Post Office is now proceeding and every facility is being provided by the authorities to enable motorists to obtain new plates with as little delay as possible. If application is delayed until the last few days motorists have themselves to blame if they have to wait unduly long to receive their plates. Next week, from Monday to Saturday inclusive, the Post Office will be open continuously from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the registration of motor vehicles. This means that the Post Office, contrary to usual custom, will be open next Saturday afternoon and evening for the purpose stated. The new plates must be affixed on Monday, June 1. About 3000 motor vehicles are registered at the Masterton Post Office and up to yesterday, only 800 had been dealt with, leaving 2200 to be issued next week. A special staff'has been detailed to attend to the work. The registration papers have been simplified this year and owners who have more than one car may hand in their application forms at any time and the plates will be put aside until payment is made. It is in? teresting to note that only 13 questions are asked in the New Zealand application form, whereas in many countries the number is much greater, in one case totalling 35. The licence fee for private cars is also quite moderate in New Zealand, the £2 demanded comparing more than favourably with that in most countries. In Britain, for instance, a charge of 15s per horse power is made and in New South Wales a car weighing 25cwt. costs £6 17s 6d, plus a flat rate charge of £l.
