Masterton: Miss A. M. Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday:— Barograph, 30.61; shade temperature, maximum, 63.4; minimum, 44.6; terrestrial, 39.8; sunshine, 4 hours 36 minutes; rain, 14 points. •Solway: Mr. H. M. Boddington reports that 17 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday: —An intense anti-cyclone now extends across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, its central portion reaching across the southern districts; pressure is low, however, and conditions are still disturbed from Lord Howe Island to beyond Norfolk Island. Forecast: Winds light and variable south of Greymouth and Akaroa, elsewhere southerly to south-easterly or in the far north easterly, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force at places, especially in North Auckland. Weather: Mainly fine in the South Island, still changeable in the North Island, with further rain on the East Coast and over the northern half generally, some heavy falls being probable in the far north; temperatures cold with sharp inland frosts in the south.
