EVEREST EXPEDITION.
HEAVY FALL OF SNOW CHECKS ADVANCE. LONDON, May 18. A copyright message from Mr. Hugh Ruttledge, leader of the Everest Expedition, states that heavy snow interrupted Messrs Smythe and Shipton as they were advancing from Camp 4. 15 inches falling on the north col. The roar of the avalanches from the northeast shoulder of Mount Everest was often audible on Sunday. The north col was reported to be unsafe perhaps for two days. Slabs of the upper part i of the mountain were unclimbable when covered with s«ow, but the violent wind was tearing new snow from the mountain, giving hope of early resumption of the advance. The party on the north col is comfortable, with plenty of food.
