Miss Marjorie Curlett, Hastings, is visiting Masterton, and is staying at the Hotel Midland.

A London cablegram reports the death of Professor Alfred Edward Housman, professor of Latin at Cambridge University. The death occurred at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. E. S. Pilcher, 19 Sea View Terrace, Northland, Wellington, on Thursday night, of Mrs. Catherine Jane Davison, at the age of 71 years. The late Mrs. Davison was a sister of the late Mrs. Edward Eagle, of Carterton, and had lived in Carterton with her for many years. The marriage took place at St. Jude’s Anglican Church, Nireaha, of Hilda Agnes, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Devonport, of Putara, Eketahuna, and Douglas James, youngest sori of Mr. and the late Mrs. B. Drysdale, of Nireaha. The Rev. Watson, of Pahiatua, officiated, and Mrs. Watson presided at the organ.

The death has occurred of Mr. J, W. Yarnall, a member of the Auckland City Council and Labour candidate for Roskill in 1925 and Parnell in 1928, states an Auckland Press Association telegram. The late Mr. Yarnall was elected to the City Council in 1933 and re-elected last year. His illness extended over some months. He died in the Auckland Hospital on Friday night, Born in London, he became a clerk with the English Education Department. He was ordained a Presbyterian minister in Sydney and after four years in a charge in Australia came to the Dargaville Church. He qualified as a solicitor nineteen years ago and practised at Dargaville and at Auckland.

The death occurred at Auckland on Thursday of Dr. Keith Stuart Macky, at the age of 47. Dr. Macky, says a Press Association message, was educated at Auckland Grammar School. Later he attended Glasgow University, where he took his medical degrees. At the outbreak of war he joined the R.A.M.C. and saw service in Mesopotamia. He was later transferred to the New Zealand Medical Corps and went with that unit through the fighting on the various fronts. At the conclusion of the war he attended Liverpool University, where he qualified as a specialist in orthopaedic surgery. Qn returning to New Zealand he practised at Auckland and had a very high reputation for his skill in difficult operations. Dr. Macky was in charge of the physio-therapy department at Auckland Hospital, but owing to pressure of work he resigned from the honorary staff, and, in recognition ,of his services, he was appointed a member of the honorary consulting staff.
