Masterton: Miss A. M. Brown reported as follows for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. May 2:—Barograph, 29; shade temperature, maximum, 57.4; minimum, 38.9; terrestrial, 37.1; sunshine, 33 minutes; rain, 36 points. May 3: Barograp-h, 29.9; shade temperature, maximum, 47.4; minimum, 40; terrestrial, 35.2; rain, 88 points; sunshine, 30 minutes. Solway: Mr. H. M. Boddington reports that 32 points of rain were measured at Solway for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Saturday and 83 points for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday. The rainfall for the three days in May was 1} inches. The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday:—An anti-cyeldne of only moderate intensity is now advancing across the North Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, where there has been a sharp rise of pressure; barometers are, however, falling again over Eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds moderate to fresh south-westerly, veering to west and north-west and becoming strong again, especially about and south of Cook Strait. Weather: Still changeable with scattered showers in places but mainly fine at present and temperatures rising later, unsettled conditions with some rain developing in districts with a westerly aspect.
