NEW ’PLANE LOST.
ACCIDENT AT MASCOT AERODROME. OCCUPANTS NARROW ESCAPE. (Received This Day, 0.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 12. When a new Gypsy Moth aeroplane piloted by Rex Nicholls was landing at Mascot Aerodrome this evening the machine struck a fence near the hangar, overturned and burst into flames. Nicholls was thrown clear and was stunned. A passenger, P. Hoskins, was trapped and was in grave peril when another pilot named Goodsen rushed to the scene and cut Hoskins’s safety belt. This enabled him to escape. Goodsen was badly burned and was taken to hospital. The machine was completely destroyed. Nicholls will be recalled as the pilot who flew the Tasman.
