WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
KAITUNA-FERNBIDGE. Although the monthly meeting of the Kaituna-Fernridge Institute did not see a full attendance of members, a very friendly and pleasant afternoon was spent. A motion of sympathy was passed with Queen Mary, -all members standing for a few minutes in silence. A demonstration of pewter work was given by Miss McCracken and great interest was shown in her work.
A very interesting talk on the Blind Institute at Auckland by Mrs. Pither was greatly appreciated and brought forth much comment on the wonderful work being carried out by the officials and members of the staff. The lighter side of the programme for the afternoon consisted of Scottish jokes. The competitions were keenly contested. The prizes were awarded as follow:—Coconut ice, Miss N. Birch 1, Miss L. Pain 2, garden peas, Mrs. Stempa 1, Mrs. Donald 2; choicest dahlia, Mrs. Keir 1, Mrs. Pringle 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Yates, Misses N. Welch and Canon. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable afternoon to a close.
