WAIRUNA TO SAIL.
MAGISTRATE ORDERS CREW BACK. — < ACQUITTED OF DESERTION. MEN RETURN TO SHIP. (Received Tuesday, 5.5 p.m.) VANCOUVER, September 30. The Wairuna’s crew were acquitted by the Magistrate, Mr. Mackenzie, at the Matheson Police Court of desertion. They thenpleaded guilty to being absent without leave and were ordered by the Magistrate to return to the ship. The crew returned to take the ship to New Zealand, for which Dominion she will probably sail on Tuesday. Arthur Mackenzie has recovered and returned to his duties from hospital. (Thirty-three deckhands and firemen on the Union Steam Ship Company’s freighter Wairuna were arrested aboard the vessel by Vancouver police last Friday. They were charged with desertion: The warrants were sworn out by the master after the men had refused to provide steam, either to unload cargo or return to sea.)
