NEW SUPPLY LINE.

POWER FOR THE WAIBABAPA DISTRICT. IMPORTANT PROPOSALS. The provision of an extra high voltage line and perhaps an additional substation to deal with the increase in load in the southern area is at present receiving the attention of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. Reporting on the matter at yesterday’s meeting of the board' the Secretary-Manager, Mr. G. Brown, stated that the Public Works Department had started the work of surveying the route of the proposed 110,060 volt line from the Waingawa sub-station to Wellington and were now working on the Wellington side of the Rimutaka Hiu. It would be necessary for the board to decide at a very early date whether it would require an additional sub-station in the southern area, as the route the line would take would ‘be determined to a very large extent by the board’s decision. The Public Works Department had offered to deviate the line and provide a sub-station at Moroa if the board so desired, at an additional annual cost of £9OO per year. The new line, when erected, would be of very great value to the district in the event of any trouble on the Public Works Department line between Masterton and Woodville, as supply would be contimqpd via Wellington over the new line.

"This is a very big matter,” observed the chairman, Mr. A. Campbell Pearce, who moved that the engineer bring down a thorough report, to* be laid on the table at the next meeting of the board for discussion. If, said Mr. Pearce, when the preliminary report was completed there was any doubt as to the best proposition, he considered a consulting engineer should be called in. He added that representations had been made to the Department by the board for a line from the south, so as to provide for continuity of supply in the event of interruptions on the northern line. The chairman's motion was seconded by Mr. W. Howard Booth and carried.
