The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, has received the following cable from its London office, dated. April 12, advising that the following are the approximate average wholesale prices per lb. realised for the week at Smithfield Market and ex London Stores:— New Zealand Sheep: Selected Canterbury and North Island crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 48/56, 4 3-8 d; 57/64, 3 5-8 d; 65/72, 31d. North Island, 48/56, 4£d; 57/64, 3 5-8 d; 65/72, 34d. Ewes, u/48, 3fd; 48/64, 3d; 65/72, 2 5-Bd. New Zealand Lambs: Canterbury, u/36, 6}d; 37/42, 6id; 43/50, 6 5-8 d; second quality, average 32, 6 l-Bd. Other South Island brands, u/36, 6jd; 37/42, 6|d; 43/50, 6 5-Bd. Lamb Market: Steady with good demand for the time of year. Stocks are accumulating owing to heavy arrivals. Mutton: Market: Lightweight wethers slightly easier—other descriptions unchanged with trade slow. Ewes unchanged with fair demand. Beef Market: Steady and unchanged. New Zealand Porker Pigs: Firm, with good demand for the time of year/ New Zealand Baconer Pigs: Market steady and unchanged. NEW ZEALAND PARITIES. In regard to the published prices realised for New Zealand lamb, delivered to Smithfield Market: The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board supplies the following table, giving the equivalent New Zealand parity, after deducting all costs, including selling commission. The costing is based on to-day’s estimated skin values and includes exchange at current rates. The calculation is on the basis of a prime woolly lamb weighing, say 341bs. delivered at freezing works:— If price delivered N.Z. 11 overall” to Smithfield is parity delivered at works (ap.) 6£d per lb. 6.64 d per lb. 6 3-8 d per ]b. 6.49 d per lb. In the above estimate the cost of killing, freezing and placing on board steamer is based on a charge of .575 d per lb.
