CHAMPION FIREMEN.
CARTERTON TEAM RETURNS HOME. GREAT WELCOME FROM PUBLIC. (“The Age’’ B|pecial.) Between four and five hundred people assembled at the Carterton Railway Station last evening to welcome the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade’s team, which returned home from the Dominion Demonstration at Blenheim as champion of champions of volunteer fire brigades throughout New Zealand. The Carterton Band led the brigadesmen to the fire station, where the Mayor, Mr. W. Fisher and Mr. J. Lawrence, president of the Tradesmen’s Association officially welcomed them. Messrs H. Matson, captain and J. Churchouse, deputy superintendent suitably replied. The Tradesmen’s Association intend holding a further welcome at a later date. The actual cash won by the brigade at the demonstration was £B9 10s.
