CRUTCHINGS SALE

LEVIN & CO., LTD. Messrs. Levin & Co., Ltd., report: —- The winter wool sale was held to-day, a total of approximately 1'2:00 bales being offered. There was no lack of buyers, but their operations were confined within strictly defined limits. To-day’s prices for erutchings were a shade easier than those ruling at the August sales last year, but it is, nevertheless, worthy of note that erutchings ‘today are relatively high in comparison with fleece values. Buying was well spread, the Continent, Australia, local consumers, and apparently Japan all taking their share. Practically the whole of our catalogue was disposed of at prices which we regard as satisfactory under existing circumstances. We quote:— Merino erutchings, 7d to 7Jd; halfbred erutchings, 5Jd to 73d; crossbred erutchings, superior 5d to r ‘ 6d, medium to good 4d to 5Jd; erutchings, seedy and inferior, Id to 4]d; crossbred pieces and bellies, 2Jd to 43d; locks and stained pieces, Id" to 2fd.' Japan, who usually (buys the best class ot erutchings, this year changed from supers to medium and seedy. Australian and .Canadian buyers operated freely on all super lots. Local mills were also in the market and took a tair weight of the better class of erutchings. Scourers were the principal buyers of merino and haifbred crutchings. Considering the present position ox the market overseas, the prices realised at to-day’s sale for the class of wool offered must be considered satisfactory.
