BOROUGH AFFAIRS.

MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL.

The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, presided at the monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, held last night. Others present were Councillors €. H. Anderson, J. R. Barr, H. M. Peacock, Trevor Beetham, W. L. Free, W. Kemp, W. H. Judd and A. D. Low. Councillor R. Russell "was granted leave of absence.

Mr. H. -H. Daniell wrote suggesting a distinctive name for the street between the bridges. It was decided to thank Mr. Daniell for his letter and advised that the council regretted that it could not comply with the suggestion as it had been the policy of the council to give a street a name for its whole length, rather than have sections of the same street known by different names.

.A letter from the Wairarapa Automobile Association, regarding cyclists riding Without reflectors and lights affixed to their cycles, was handed to the inspectors for their attention.

The Badminton Association was granted the use of the Municipal Hall on Wednesday, August 29, for the purpose of running a tourney at tho scheduled fee.

A letter of thanks was received from the Girl Guides for the use of the social hall for their party. The caretaker of the Municipal Buildings, Mr. J. V. Dolan, was granted permission to attend the South African War Veteran’s conference in Wellington. The Wairarapa Hockey Association wrote asking that favourable consideration be given in the matter of their account of £6 owing for the use of the roller at the Lansdowne grounds. It was resolved that the amount be written off. It was resolved that the Wairarapa High, Technical and Lansdowne schools be placed on the same footing as other schools in the Borough, i.e., a flat rate of £4 per annum, for water supplied. The Mayor was authorised* to represent the council at a conference on overseas loans to be held in Wellington.
