SMALL SHIP ASHORE.

MISHAP ON MOKAU RAW.

TOTAL LOSS FEARED.

NEW PLYMOUTH, August 21. The small oilburning vessel Kapui (50 tons) is ashore at Mokau and is exp-ected to become a total wreck. The Kapui was putting to sea early this morning from Mokau River with a cargo of coal for Waitara. Crossing the bar a heavy sea crashed through the skylight and stopped the oil engines, The vessel quickly drifted round on to the beach, where her back was broken. The crew of four reached the shore safely. The Kapui is being pounded by fairly heavy seas and is expected to break up quickly. She is owned by Mr. Charles Wright, of Mangatoi, and has been trading between Waitara and Mokau for some years.—(P.A.)
