RESEARCH AND PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN. DEVELOPMENT OF EMPIRE PLAN. NEW ZEALAND’S PARTICIPATION. AUCKLAND, May 4. New Zealand's active participation in an Empire plan of wool research and publicity in the inauguration of which she was one of the prime movers, was announced by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes). Mr. Forbes will to-morrow convey this information to Mr. 8. M. Bruce, High. Commissioner for Australia in London, enabling the latter to reconvene the representative London committee. The proposals were that for work in Great Britain in connection with wool research and publicity, Empire producing countries should provide on a levy t>asis a total of £20,000 per annum over |ten years. The levy would 'be based ©n the sheep populations of each country. New Zealand’s contribution would i>e approximately £2BOO. It was contridered that two-thirds of the £20,000 should be used for publicity and oneIthird for research. Without permartently fixing those proportions it had keen suggested that the users should provide a sum equal to that contributied by the producers for publicity purposes under a corporate plan. It was intended to develop research into production problems in each country and Bim at co-operation in every possible phase of utilisation. Mr. Forbes said It had been decided so far as the (New Zealand Government was concerned that it was prepared to co-operate In any scheme along the lir.es described, provided all contributors were forthcoming from the other sources mentioned.—(P.A.)
