GEYSER OF FIRE
RICH OIL STRIKE IGNITES IN MOROCCO. DISCOVERY AFTER SIX YEARS’ SEARCH. PREPARATIONS TO DYNAMITE MOUTH OF WELL. (Received Wednesday, 7 p.m.) LONDON, March 14. A Casablanca message states that prospectors searching the desert and mountains for six years for oil, struck it under Mount Tselfat, 25 miles from Fort Lyautey. The oil spouted with such velocity and volume that it broke high tension cables fifty feet high and caused a short circuit. There was a sheet of flame, then a thunderous roar as the oil flared skywards in a gigantic geyser of liquid fire. Experts estimate that the output of the flaming gusher is 1,800,000 gallons a day, almost all going to waste. Preparations are being made to dynamite the mouth of the well and thus close is to extinguish the flames. Fortunehunters are rushing to the scene. Land round Mount Tselfat has increased in value tenfold in a few days.
