FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT.
MAN KILLED & TWO WOMEN INJURED. CAR AND HORSE FLOAT COLLIDE. CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. An accident involving the death of a man and serious injuries to two women occurred 2} miles north of Ashburton on Saturday evening when a motor horse float and motor car collided. The float driven by Walter George Ervines, motor mechanic, Christchurch, and contained also Mrs. Steel, Spreydon, Christchurch, and three men, besides three horses. The car was driven by James Lott, contractor, 37, Amberley, accompanied by his wife. The im- I pact was so great that the car was A. forced back some distance before the float overturned, Lott being killed instantly while Mrs. Lott and Mrs. Steel were injured, the former about the head and the latter on the body. The ear was completely wrecked. The two women are progressing favourably in hospital.—(P.A.)
