FLOODS IN AUSTRALIA.
LARGE AREA AFFECTED IN N.S.W. SYDNEY SUBURBS INVADED. SYDNEY, April 7. Floods in the coastal areas of New South Wales followed the recent incessant rain. The Hawkcsbury River, is rising so rapidly that the town of Windsor was expected to be isolated by this morning. Rain has now ceased, however, and it is possible the river may subside. Thousands of acres of land are already submerged. The Windsor-Sydney road is under water and has been closed for traffic. Fine weather has removed the fears of serious floods on the far Northern rivers, but the Weather Bureau issued' a warnin'g that floods were to be expected on the South Coast rivers. All crocks in the Liverpool district overflowed yesterday, and bridges became impassable, isolating farmers in many low-lying areas. Sydney suburbs were under water yesterday, and many houses in Bankstown were flooded. The water in the main streets was several feet deep. The Canterbury Park racecourse was flooded to a depth of two feet. Much damage was done to the market gardens. The Warwick Farm racecourse, where races are to be held, on Saturday, including the important Chipping Norton Plate, is now a vast sheet of water.
