SINGAPORE BASE.
STATEMENT BY FIRST LORD. (Received Thursday, 7 p.m.) LONDON, April 5. In the House of Commons, Sir B Eyres-Monsell, First Lord of the Admiralty, informed Mr. Louis Smith that it was hoped the Jackson contract for the Singapore naval -base would be completed in September and the remaining works four years thereafter. It would be used as a fuelling, storing and repair base. The base would be within the limits of the China Command.
