TRADE DELEGATION.

SENATOR GREENE’S PARTING WORDS. CLOSER CONTACT URGED 1 . WELLINGTON, April 6. Appreciation of the hospitality extended to him during his stay in New Zealand was expressed by Senator Massy Greene before his departure for. the North to join the Sydney boat at Auckland. His only regret was that he had been unable to stay longer and see more of the “beauty and fertility of this wonderful country.” On behalf of Mrs. Greene and the members of the delegation, he wished to express to the Government and people of New Zealand his warmest thanks for the cordiality of the reception and hospitality so generously extended. “In due time the results of our mission will become known,” Senator Greene said. “I believe that apart altogether from whatever may have been achieved, the opportunity this visit has afforded to exchange views and learn each other’s point of view, cannot but be of benefit, to both Dominions. We see far too little of each other. Perhaps it may be found possible in future to maintain closer contact for our mutual benefit. I know that in common with the rest of the world New Zealand is facing a most difficult situation, one involving suffering and sacrifice on the part of a large proportion of the people. Still I have every confidence that a country so predominantly British as New Zealand will emerge from these troublous times, stronger, sounder and safer to garner a full measure of the fruits of prosperity we confidently believe will return to us in due season. Just as primary producing countries were the first to face the reaction of depression, so there is every reason to hope that under wise Government they will be the leaders in recovery when it comes, as come it must.”—(P.A.) COMPLETE OVERHAUL NEGOTIATIONS NOT 1 ACTUALLY' CONCLUDED. WELLINGTON, April 6. The trade, negotiations between the representatives of the New Zealand and Australian governments have not actually concluded, unless finality is reached by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, who is going North on a special train to complete negotiation details before reaching Auckland. Senator Massy Greene and the members of his party are to leave for Auckland by a. special train at 1 a.m. The train will be' in time to connect with the Sydney steamer. The outcome of the conference is understood to he a complete overhaul of the existing trade agreement, which has been amended to conform more closely with the changed conditions.—(P.A.)
