NAZIS TAKE HOLD.

MUNICIPAL AUTHORITIES EJECTED. INVASION OF NEWSPAPER OFFICE. BERLIN, March 13. In pursuance of the Nazi, policy of consolidating the party’s success at the municipal elections by seizing city administrations further arrests of burgomasters include those of Herr Fleefoot at Ludwigshafen, and Herr Forthuber, at Neustad; also Socialist and Communist councillors in various towns. Herr Landmann, bugomaster at Frankfurt, relinquished his office in favour of Nazis. The burgomaster at Heinrich is threatened with arrest immediately he leaves hospital. Six Socialist leaders are already in custody. At Breslau the Law Courts have been idle for three days, guarded by Storm Troops.

■ At Munich Count Anton Arcovalley, pardoned in 1921 for shooting the Communist Premier Eisner in 1919, was arrested on suspicion of intending, to kill Herr Hitler. A hundred armed Nazis raided the offices of the “Essener Volkszeitung,” and compelled the staff to print a verbatim report of Captain Goering's latest speech, complaining that it was inadequately reported in Saturday’s issue. They also forced the machinists to print a large number of extra copies which the Nazis distributed in the streets. The Nazi report adds: “We hope this example will make the newspapers more loyal to the new regime.” There was a lull in outrages to-day. General von Epp has ordered patrols to arrest agents provocateurs masquerading as Nazis and limited the suspension of newspapers to eight days. REDS IN AUSTRIA. POLICE RAID & ARRESTS. VIENNA, March 13. The police raided Communist headquarters, occupied the offices of the newspaper “Rote Fahne,” and arrested twenty-four persons.
