AFTER THE ’QUAKE.
RELIEF AND RECONSTRUCTION IN CALIFORNIA. FULL TIDE OF ACTIVITY IN PROGRESS. PRECAUTIONS AGAINST DISEASE. (Received Monday, 7 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, March 12. Fear of idisease getting a foothold in the earthquake town area and metropolitan district through the pollution of unregulated sanitation added more woe on Sunday to the predicament of homeless thousands. The united relief agencies went into action on a wide front and first aid, the conveyance of the injured to hospital, food distribution and even reconstruction work gathered momentum while the earth was still shaking. Thirty-five major shocks occurred, but the continuing shocks did little damage, except to shake down more bricks, glass and masonry. The casualty and damage figures have remained generally unchanged.
