HOCKEY REFEREES.
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL REPORT. ATTITUDE OF LADIES’ CLUBS CRITICISED. The annual report of the Wairarapa Hoekey Referees’ Association for the past season states: —“The season was a very successful one and showed a decided improvement on previous years as far as the standard of refereeing was concerned. We held four general meetings and with a membership of 18, the average attendance at the meetings was 14, an increase of two on last season’s average. These meetings were always interesting and great benefit was gained by the discussions which took place. With a cash balance of £2 7s 2d, we are in a satisfactory position financially. The examiners were kept busy during the year, and three mem hers gained their local badge, Messrs. G. Hayne, S. Burnip and H. Sayers. Two New Zealand theory examinat’ons were held and Messrs. D. Burgess, G. W. Moriee and S. Moor were successful. We extend to Mr. L. 8. Nicol and Mr. A. Stubbings our thanks for their services as supervisors for the New Zealand theory examination. Mr. R. P. Staples, our delegate to the New Zealand Hockey Referees’ Association, has again been active in our interests a;.d is a live delegate. We extend to him our appreciation of his services. We regret the loss to our association of Mr D. Burgess and Mr. G. Jaquary, both now resident in Wellington. We hope that what is our loss will be Wellington’s gain. Our congratulations are extended to the Wairarapa Hockey Associations on their venture into a tournament on June 3. This initial event was a pronounced success and we wish them even greater success in future tournaments. Our president, Mr. Alex Pickering, as in the past, has been very active. Although not an active member, he has been of great assistance to referees-as timekeeper. To members Who have assisted by the use of their cars we extend our thanks. We also Wish to record our appreciation to all who have assisted us during the season, members and their wives who have permitted meetings to be held in their nomes and to Mr. A.
