FORCED LANDING.
PRIVATELY-OWNED BIPLANE DAMAGED. TWO OCCUPANTS UNINJURED. AUCKLAND, December 21. A privately owned Avro Avian biplane was damaged in a forced landing near the Mangero aerodrome this morning. The pilot, Mr. D. McNieol, of Dannevirke, had as a passenger Miss I. Gunn, of Taumarunui. The aeroplane took off at 10 o’clock, but the engine stopped while the machine was still at a low altitude, and the pilot decided to land in a nearby field. A landing wheel came off and the aeroplane plunged its nose into the ground. The 'damage is not extensive. Both occupants are uninjured.—(P.A.)
