OBITUARY.

MR. JOHN B. EATON.

The death took place at his residency Rexwood Street, Carterton, yesterday, of Mr. John Beaven Eaton, at the age of 69 years. The late Mr. Eaton was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs John -Eaton, who were early pioneers of the Wairarapa. He was born at Taita, Lower Hutt, and when a lad of nine years, came with his parents to reside at Carterton. He later went to Ballance when the present main rood was merely a bush track, and after many years spent in the King Country returned to the Wairarapa and took up farming in Greytown, where he lived for nine years. Twelve months ago he was taken ill and he never fully recovered. He leaves a widow and a family of three sons and one daughter. These are: Messrs. Sidney Eaton, Dannevirke; Roland Eaton, Otaki; and Eric Eaton, Petone; and Mrs. L. Simmonds, Petone. His brothers are Messrs. G. H. Eaton, Masterton; T. R. and C. Eaton, Longbush and his sisters are Mrs. A. King, Carterton; Mrs. W. Colman, Hamilton, and Mrs. W. A. Renall, Parkvale. The funeral is appointed for thia, afternoon, leaving the residence at one o’clock, for the Clareville Cemetery. MR. SAMUEL FEAST. Mr. Samuel Feast, whose death occurred at Greytown on Tuesday, was one of the best known and most highly respected settlers of the South Wairarapa. The late Mr. Feast, who was 67 years of age, was a son of one of the district’s pioneer settlers, the late Mr John Feast. Mr. Samuel Feast engaged in farming in different parts of the South Wairarapa, but retired at Greytown a few years before being smitten by illness. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic shooter and cricket player, and in later years he was an active member of the Greytown Golf Club and Bowling Club: Ho also owned racehorses and trotters. He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word. His wife predeceased him in 1922. He leaves a family of one son— Mr. Wilfred Feast, of Featherston—and seven daughters, Miss Linda Feast (Greytown), Mrs. J. Fearon (Carterton), Mrs. F. Wells (Wellington), Mrs S. Thompson (Greytown), Mrs E. Buckman (Wellington), Mrs. Major (Palmerston North) and Miss Zena Feast (Greytown)—who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their bereavement. Mr. W. J. Feast (Ahikouka), Mr. A. C. Feast (Carterton), Mr. A. E. Feast (Featherston) are brothers, and Mrs. Williams (darterton) is a sister.

The funeral will leave the late residence, Wood Street, Greytown, at 1 pan. to-day for the Featherston Cemetery.
